I had a 3.6 or a 3.8 . . . something like that (it has been 10yrs since then). . . coming out of High School. I tested well on the PSAT and the SAT. Realizing that HS is a sham and a waste of time, I took off to Tech --back then, Ma Tech did not even care if you had a diploma so long as you tested well-- early and entered in the Winter (2nd) Quarter of 1995. I arrived with GA's Hope scholarship, and the GA Tech Dean's scholarship. I lost both at the end of my second or third year (I think it was the third).

If you want to get in, test well. If you can't test well, or your GPA is low, go somewhere else first and/or enter on an 'off' semester (Spring or Summer). Tech has changedfrom Quarters to Semesters , so it's a bit tougher to do that now, which is unfortunate. The place has really become a lot less friendly to people who want to have more flexibility in structuring their own curriculum. When I was there, you really didn't even _have_ to take things in proper sequence (they'd just fail you if you couldn't cut it).

Honestly, if you don't test well, consider going somewhere else. The first two years are almost nothing but test after test after test in 'weed out' courses. If don't make it at Tech doing what you want, go somewhere else and take what you want there. Don't fall into Management, as you might not be able to get a job after you graduate.

I applied! Georgia Tech was the only school I applied to (I was in-state) and I was the first one in my high school's graduating class to be accepted anywhere.

I would say that in addition to a good SAT score, having demonstrated interest and skill in the sciences is probably one of the best things you could do to be accepted.
